Thawlweg Floway

Return to Completed Projects page

The Ditch Creek Diversion Project is the source of the Highline system, which serves the Upper Section A thalweg floway design was implemented, referring to the connection between the lowest points of the streambed. Construction was completed in November 2004 to replace an existing screen that allowed debris into the system, frequently interrupting service for the Highline users.

It consists of a box buried below the streambed with a screen across the top. Fish and debris are swept past the screen and water percolates through, draining into the attached pipe. The entire structure and pipes are buried, unobtrusive to the natural landscape. The new diversion will greatly enhance water delivery to the Upper Section in future irrigation seasons.
